The Purple People Bridge - The perfect unique wedding, party or event venue.

Welcome to the first post in our new blog category all about Cincinnati wedding and party venues. Today we are discussing the Purple People Bridge!

Purple People Bridge History

The Purple People Bridge (formally known as the Newport Southbank Bridge) opened on April 1, 1872. It was the first railroad bridge spanning the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Over the years, it went from transporting trains to automobiles to now being a pedestrian only bridge. In 2001, the City of Newport and Southbank Partners received $4 million in state funds to paint and restore the bridge.

Purple People Bridge Today

"Today, the bridge serves as an instrumental pedestrian link between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky and is a tourist attraction and event venue that has seen substantial development arise around its footprint."

Did you know of the 9 bridges linking Kentucky and Cincinnati, this is the only one that is only for pedestrians? That makes it the perfect link between Cincy and NKY attractions, restaurants and views. Today the Purple People Bridge, the city of Newport, and the Southbank Partners are working to return this historic bridge to all it's purple glory. Events such as the Party on the Purple and 2019 Diner en Blanc have helped to raise funds to repainting the bridge.

The bridge is just over a half a mile long and provides an easy way for people to move between Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati. According to purplepeoplebridge.com, it "links the river-fronts of Ohio and Kentucky in a seamless collection of entertainment, dining, nightlife, festivals, parks, attractions and more that brings hundreds of thousands to the river’s edge."

So, What Makes the Purple People Bridge Such a Great Event Venue?

Hundreds of events happen each year on the Purple People Bridge - from corporate parties, to the weekly Party on the Purple, to upscale events, gorgeous weddings, luncheons, and so much more. And, there's no better time for an event on the bridge than in the summer! If you're planning a 2021 wedding or event and want to enjoy the beautiful sun setting over the water, gorgeous city lights, and even the Reds' Firework display at night, this is the perfect venue for you!

This venue also has perfect lighting for photos during the day and night. There's always a stunning background for wedding or event photos; whether you're facing the water, taking photos with the long bridge in the background, or standing in front of the city lights at night, you'll always have a great shot.

With a perfect view of the city lights at night, this location provides a unique Cincinnati event atmosphere. In addition, a portion of the proceeds raised from the event went to repainting the bridge.
